(first letter)

Dear Whomever,

Thank you for everything you have done for me. Raising two children with love, care, and kindness was probably unimaginably difficult considering the circumstances, but you managed to do it nonetheless. Being a parent is probably the most unrewarding job to have, but I want you to know that I do recognize the sacrifices you have made for us, even if I never said anything. You could have chosen to be a parent who is unnecessarily strict and who never cares, and yet you chose to be the complete opposite. You always tried your best, and that was all it really took. You did a great job.

I’m sorry for all of the times I got angry at you for no particular reason. Sometimes, you can be straight up annoying, but then again I probably irritate you a lot as well. I’m also sorry for not acknowledging everything that you did that made our lives so much easier. For some reason, I was never felt comfortable being vulnerable or expressing my emotions around you and it’s always been really awkward for me. I should have gotten over that and realized that you needed to be openly appreciated.

I read a post online the other day that said “Besides your parents, no one really loves you.” It made me reflect on the people in my life. Immediately, no other person in the household or any single one of my friends came to mind. You were the only one.

Audrey

(second letter)

Dear Whomever,

Now that you’ve seen my letter, I’m glad that you know how I really feel. I hope it doesn’t make things awkward between us, and that things can still stay the way that they were before I was on the island.

I’m glad that I got to express myself, because it’s been something that I’ve been holding inside and thinking about for years. Everything that I said was one hundred percent true and will remain true for the rest of my life.

Love,

Audrey
